EuMBC Conference 2019 on 16 May - Industry experts met in Brussels

High-level speakers gave the latest insights on EU regulatory and industry developments for Masterbatchers & Compounders.

EuMBC, the European Masterbatchers and Compounders association, invited to its 2019 Conference on 16 May in Brussels with speakers from Aimplas, Baerlocher, BusinessEurope, BSEF, EBRC Consulting, ECHA and the European Commission.

 

EuMBC president Marc Cornu welcomed the 35 particpants and opened the morning session with a short introduction to the European Masterbatchers and Compounders association before Sebastian Lemp, EuMBC Communications Executive presented the REACH Horizon scanning tool, which alows EuMBC members to keep track of REACH legislation for all their raw materials in a convenient way. 

During the first presentation Christian Krassnig, Policy Officer DG GROW presented the on-going work for a REACH restriction of microplastics in the context of the Plastics Strategy. In the second presentation Kevin Bradley, Secretary General of BSEF presented the Voluntary Emission Control Action Programme (VECAP) - an innovative and excellence-driven way of doing business, based on ISO 14001 principles. It demonstrates the commitment of the industries involved to act in the interest of society and the environment while enhancing the competitiveness of local industries. Before breaking for lunch, Daniel Sompolski, Scientific Officer at ECHA gave insights regarding Poison Centres Notifications as of 2020 which was followed by an informative Q&A session. 

After lunch Raquel Llorens Chiralt, Expert in the Compounding Department of Aimplas gave an update regarding nanomaterials and the egulatory and technical challenges involved. Raquel's presentation was followed by Daniel Vetter from EBRC Consulting who gave an update on the proposed TiO2 Classification, exposure assessment and reduction possibilities. Henrik Eriksson, Technical Product Manager at Baerlocher, then presented “a novel stabilization concept for polyolefins”. In the last presentation of the conference, Benedikt Wiedenhofer, Adviser International Relations Department at BusinessEurope gave an overview of possible industry implications of Brexit.
