EuMBC, the European Masterbatchers and Compounders association, invites you to its 2022 Conference on 3 May in Brussels with speakers from International Antimony Association (ia2), CEFIC, Chemical Recycling Europe, the European Commission, the International Carbon Black Association and many more.

MEET THE SPEAKERS

John Sewell, Secretary General of Chemical Recycling Europe

Educated as a chemical engineer, John began his career in the plastics industry thirty years ago in process R&D before moving on to product development, technical service, business development, market leadership and technology licensing.

The value of plastics being clear to John, so are the challenges presented by plastic leakage to the environment, the need to reduce carbon footprint and to shift from fossil-based plastics to circular plastics. Chemical recycling is key to implementing circularity in the plastics value chain and is essential in meeting the recycling targets in Europe for 2025, 2030 and beyond. As Secretary General for Chemical Recycling Europe John embraces with gusto doing his part to help drive the industry towards its full potential.

Steven Van de Broeck, Director REACH & Chemicals Policy at CEFIC

Steven Van de Broeck is Director REACH & Chemicals Policy at Cefic. His main areas of responsibility include (regulatory) risk management of chemicals, REACH registration and supply chain communication.

Steven joined Cefic in 2015. He has + 20 years of experience on environmental and chemical policy. Prior to joining Cefic he was active as consultant and policy advisor at the Belgian chemical association.Steven holds an MsC in chemical engineering and several post graduates in environmental and safety management.

Ann Dierckx, Sustainability Director at CEFIC

Ann Dierckx graduated as an engineer in chemistry and agricultural sciences in 1990 at the Catholic University of Leuven. She holds a PhD in engineering in chemistry and agricultural sciences from the same university (1995). Prior to joining Cefic in 2008, she worked in the field of disposal of radioactive waste, first at the Belgian Nuclear Research Center in Mol, Belgium, later at the Belgian Agency for Radioactive Waste and Enriched Fissile Materials (NIRAS/ONDRAF) in Brussels where she held several coordinating positions.

In 2008, she joined Cefic as environmental policy manager, dealing with policy matters in the field of industrial emissions, air, water, soil and biodiversity as well as occupational health related issues. Later on, she took up responsibilities related to sustainability and from 2017 onwards, she holds the position of Director of Sustainability at Cefic.

Dr. Wesley Wample, President of the International Carbon Black Association

Dr. Wesley Wampler is the current President of the International Carbon Black Association of which he has been a member since 1995. He is also a Vice President with Tokai Carbon CB and was previously a Vice President with Sid Richardson Carbon Co. for over 30 years. He is a member of the American Chemical Society Rubber Division where he has presented numerous papers and chaired several symposiums. He is also a member of the American Society of Testing and Materials Committee D24 on Carbon Black where he has chaired several subcommittees.

Dr. Wampler has also coauthored two chapters on Carbon Black in books dealing with its use in the rubber industry.Wesley Wampler received a B.S degree in Chemistry and Biology from Tarleton State University in 1981, an M.S. degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1987 and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1995.

Geoffroy Tillieux, Head of the Technical Department at EuPC

Geoffroy graduated in 2000 from Solvay Business School, specialisation Finance and manufacturing, Université Libre de Bruxelles,. He obtained a Master in Law in 2012 from Université Catholique de Louvain and a Master in environmental management in 2017 from the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

He has been working for the European Plastics Converters Association since 2000. As Director of the EuPC Technical Department, Geoffroy coordinates the raw materials committee, food contact issues and risk and socio-economic assessments related to the REACH legislation. Since 2019, he coordinates activities related to microplastics. He also heads the Regulatory Compliance Services Division of Polymer Comply Europe, EuPC’s service company.

Tom Griffiths, REACH Manager at International Antimony Association (i2a)

Tom is an environmental and sustainability professional with 15 years’ experience in the field. In the last 10 years he has worked in product sustainability with a focus on REACH and CLP, helping shape a sustainable future with some of the world’s leading organisations via aiding in the production of products that will have a positive impact on society and the environment. Tom joined i2a in May 2021 to help deliver their aim of sustainable and responsible production, use and recycling of antimony.

Alberto Parenti, Policy Officer at the European Commission

Dr. Alberto Parenti is a Senior Expert in the Internal Market department of the European Commission, where he works in the Green and Circular Economy unit. In this capacity, he has contributed to the drafting of the new Circular Economy Action Plan and he is currently managing the Sustainable Products Initiative, leading to the adoption of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).

Previously, he has work in the Environmental department of the European Commission, coordinating a wide range of sustainable development initiatives on water and waste management; nature conservation; adaptation to climate change; and sustainable consumption and production.

Prior to his work at the European Commission, he was an adviser for the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, supporting the implementation of nature conservation programs in South America and Europe. He started his international career in Ethiopia with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, managing a portfolio of sustainable industrial development projects. Dr. Parenti has an extensive academic background. He holds a Ph.D. in International Economic Law from Bocconi University in Milan, where he taught International and EU law. Throughout his carrier, he has authored numerous academic publications. Since 2018, he is Senior Fellow for the National Council for Science and the Environment, an US-based organization of Universities and Colleges aimed at improving the scientific basis of environmental policy- and decision-making.
